Turning up the heat
Monday - August 15, 2005

Today's headline has nothing to do with hockey at all. I just mean it was darn hot here in New York over the weekend. It's tough to think about hockey when the temperature reaches almost 100 degrees.

Nothing today from the beat writers. Larry Brooks was covering baseball today. John Dellapina must be on a beach somewhere sipping a frozen drink.

Alan Hahn at Newsday had something yesterday about restricted free agency. Alan also points out that the Isles are having trouble coming to terms with goalie Rick DiPietro, as they are afraid he will hit the free agent market in a few years.

The NHL website has a compilation of the top 10 goals from the 2003-04 season.

The Rangers' prospect camp came to a close on Friday. Coach Tom Renney had this to say about the camp:

"The bottom line is that this is a greeting into the Ranger culture . . . And these last few groups that we’ve done this with will be the Ranger culture; one that’s based on hard work, good energy and those types of things. The idea behind this is to just expose them to us as much as possible and us to them and begin to develop that relationship.”

Sounds great, but that hasn't exactly been the 'Ranger culture' we have seen at Madison Square Garden over the last several years.

The guys at Outside the Garden have a commentary on the Rangers' offseason.

That's about it. I can't wait for training camp, as there will be a lot of competition for roster spots this year. It should be fun watching these guys battle it out.
