Rangers sign three
Thursday - August 18, 2005
The Rangers are continuing to add youth to their system. Yesterday they signed three young players they hope will someday compete for spots on Broadway. One of them has a very good chance of making this year's team, and that is Petr Prucha. If you are a regular reader of this site and the Rodent's, you are familiar with the young Czech. You might also know how angry his former team's GM was that they were losing Prucha. It should be exciting watching him at training camp. The Rangers also signed goaltender Chris Holt. This adds more depth to the organization's goaltending corps, along with Henrik Lundqvist and Al Montoya. Rounding out the trio is 21-year-old Finnish defenseman Hannu Pikkarainen. Pikkarainen was an unrestricted free agent, and we don't really have much in the way of scouting reports on him. The Rodent rants about the phrase "Get this guy" appearing all over hockey message boards. The NHL's deal with Comcast to air games on the Outdoor Life Network was finalized yesterday, as ESPN declined to match the offer. The agreement would earn the NHL $135 million dollars over two years, with the potential to extend it up to six years. Spector talks about some of the rumors swirling around hockey circles, including what is happening in Tampa Bay with Martin St. Louis. There is also an article over at Sportsnet about the situation. Here is the complete list of free agent moves. HDH Posted by Jim at August 18, 2005 07:31 AMeMail this entry! |
