Mark Messier Night
Monday - September 12, 2005
January 12, 2006 will be a very spacial night in Madison Square Garden. That is when #11 will be raised to the rafters in the building where Messier finally raised the Stanley Cup for Rangers fans. Of course, the Edmonton Oilers will be in New York to face the Rangers that evening. Messier officially announced his retirement in a conference call at noon today. "It's been a long career and I've achieved a lot," the 44-year-old said on a conference call. "There was nothing really left of me to achieve." He said that he feels like he could play another season, but stated that there was a 'host' of reasons he decided to call it quits. I think I can speak on behalf of many when I say "THANK YOU" to Mark for all he brought to hockey fans everywhere, especially those of us in New York. One of the greatest memories I have is Mark holding the Stanley Cup clad in the red, white, and blue Ranger sweater. Mark Messier will forever remain THE CAPTAIN in our hearts. We wish him the very best. HDH Posted by Jim at September 12, 2005 12:34 PMeMail this entry! |
