Honorable discharge
Saturday - September 24, 2005
OK, so the Rangers are out of the Army now, and we can get back to hockey. I like the fact that they tried something different. 'Team building' is a good thing, and I only hope it translates to results on the ice, even if it is just positive development for the young players. The Rangers reassigned three players yesterday, including young defenseman Marc Staal, who was sent back to his junior team. They also sent Anders Ericksson and Alexandre Giroux to Hartford. Ericksson played badly through camp and against the Islanders, so I am ok with him being sent down, but Giroux had a good season with the Pack last year, and was performing well at camp this year. I thought he deserved a longer look. The Harford Courant confirms some old internet rumors that Peter Worrell was talking to the Rangers. The 6'7, 250 pound enforcer will be attending the Wolf Pack camp, and if he performs well, he could be called up to the Rangers eventually. I think it is another waste of a position, if he were to make the team. With the new rules in place, Worrell might be a burden. But, he can kick butt, and maybe they do need that. NY Post - Pat Reichart (?) reports that the Rangers have the list of candidates to assume the role of 'captain' down to two players.....Jaromir Jagr and Darius Kasparaitis. The Star Ledger - Colin Stephenson writes that the Rangers are not worried about their offense, despite only scoring one goal against the Isles in the pre-season opener. Steve Zipay at Newsday talks about prospect Ryan Hollweg, whose younger brother is a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Tomorrow will be a great sports day for me. Softball in the morning, NFL football in the afternoon, attending the Rangers' game at 5:00 pm, and then Giants Sunday night football. It doesn't get any better than that.
