Capital Punishment
Tuesday - October 11, 2005
I am certain that I am at least the 1,000th person to come up with that cheesy headline. So the Rangers played their first really bad game of the season. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it due to a previously scheduled trip. From what I could gather on from the news stories and the message boards, it seems Jamie Lundmark did not play well at all. Nor did Darius Kasparaitis, who was called for an interference penalty that left the Rangers shorthanded five-on-three. The Capitals' rookie star, Alexander Ovechkin, scored the winning goal on the ensuing power play. The Rangers have now lost three games in a row, even though the general consensus is that they outplayed both the Canadiens and the Devils, only to get burned in OT both times. Because I didn't see the game, I am just going to give you the news: New York Post - Larry Brooks points out that Lundmark was particularly bad, despite being benched for Saturday's game against the Devils New York Daily News - John Dellapina points out that the Rangers played an arrogant and unintelligent game yesterday. The Journal News - Andrew Gross writes that the Rangers had power play opportunities in the third period, but did not shoot enough and found themselves crowding one side of the offensive zone. The Star Ledger - Colin Stephenson says that the Rangers mistakes cost them the chance to beat the Caps. New York Newsday- Steve Zipay covers the game. New York Times - Jason Diamos says that hidden behind the hype of Sidney Crosby is the big secret named Alexander Ovechkin. The Rodent discusses yesterday's game and looks at another possible CBA loophole. NY Sports Day continues to cover the New York Rangers. That's basically it. The Blueshirts take a couple of days off, and start a four game home stand on Thursday against the Devils.....again. HDH Posted by Jim at October 11, 2005 10:12 AMeMail this entry! |
