The NHL and their Business Partners Screw Up Again
Monday - October 17, 2005
Despite having told their customers all day long that a deal was in place and Cablevision subscribers will see tonight's Rangers/Panthers game on the OLN network, this turns out to be entirely untrue and an estimated 70% of Ranger fans in the greater New York City area are blacked out of tonight's game. Another wonderful job by the NHL and their new TV partner, Comcast, who are the ones enforcing the blackout on Cablevision systems. Cablevision isn't without blame, either, as they told anyone who called today the game would be seen on the OLN network tonight for subscribers. More lies. Just because hockey is back doesn't mean criticism of the NHL should cease. They're the ones who allowed Comcast to hold their NHL broadcasts for ransom until other systems (like Cablevision) moved OLN to a different pricing tier, and they're the ones who are allowing this to continue by not requiring OLN/Comcast to allow these other cable systems to air the games while negotiations continue. This is the last thing this Mickey Mouse league needs right now. The NHL Headquarters in New York City can be reached at: (212) 789-2000 Call them and voice your displeasure. The only way they'll know how you feel is if you tell them. And don't forget, there are another eight Ranger games on OLN this season, so this isn't just a one shot deal. - Rocha eMail this entry! |
