First things first
Wednesday - October 19, 2005
We want to thank our readers for the response we have gotten regarding the cable situation and the Rangers. One thing is for certain . . . Rangers fans are not alone in this. We have received numerous emails describing similar situations from as far away as Washington State and northern Nevada. Again, we are not even going to bother placing blame here (although there is plenty to go around), but we are going to put the burden on the NHL to resolve it. The NHL has been shoving these "Thank you, Fans" and "New fan-friendly NHL" and "My NHL" marketing campaigns down our throats, yet they have done nothing to address the simplest of complaints: THAT THE FANS CAN'T EVEN WATCH THE NHL. So far, just as an example, some fans in the biggest market in the country, New York, were not able to see the first NHL hockey game played in over sixteen months in which the Rangers upset the Flyers, and some fans were not able to see the newest fan favorite, Henrik Lundqvist, record his first career shutout. Isn't Lundqvist EXACTLY the type of player the league needs to market around? Ridiculous. I am not going to take credit and say we influenced people to write about this topic, but I was very happy to see that it was covered in a few places today. Colin Stephenson of the Star Ledger lets his readers know that some fans are being left in the cold by these cable wars. Our friends over at Blueshirt Bulletin have a word or two for the NHL, OLN, and cablevision. They tell of the story that one fan has notified the NHL of his intent to start a class action against them. Neil Best of NY Newsday writes that Cablevision has continues to advertise OLN hockey as part of its digital sports tier, even though the games are not being shown. We continue to encourage you to contact the NHL and the other parties to get this matter resolved. You can read statements from Cablevision and OLN below, and we are waiting to hear from the NHL. I will contact them again today. National Hockey League: 1251 Avenue of the Americas, 47th. Floor. New York, NY 10020
Two Stamford Plaza - 9th Floor, 281 Tresser Boulevard, Stamford, CT 06901
1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714
The next Rangers game to be aired on OLN will be Monday, October 31st. Our goal is to stay on them until we are 100% that the game will be shown to as many Rangers fans as possible. We'll be back in just few with today's news. Posted by Jim at October 19, 2005 09:17 AMeMail this entry! |
