Sergei's brother
Wednesday - October 26, 2005

The poor kid has probably had to live with the fact that he is Sergei Fedorov's younger brother his entire life (get it?), but now Fedor Fedorov will get the opportunity to make his own name in the NHL, and he seems determined to do so.

The 'other' Fedorov was called up from Hartford yesterday to fill in for the injured "Marian's younger brother". Fedor is determined to prove that he belongs in the NHL, and he even has a chip on his shoulder about it:

"I grew up watching my brother play and this is the league I want to play in," Fedor Fedorov said yesterday at the Madison Square Garden Training Center after his first practice with the Rangers. "Until I get a fair shot, I'm not going to leave it alone."

Furthermore, Fedorov has vowed that he will stay with the Rangers now that he has been called up:

"They didn't say anything about how long I'm going to be here, but I'm going to stay," Fedorov said after he finished his first practice with the Rangers.

Newsday has a nice bit of background information on Fedorov-the-lesser.

John Dellapina of the Daily News reports that Tom Poti will return to the lineup, despite the fact that Poti claims his confidence is very low:

Told that Renney said after practice yesterday that he needs and wants Poti's offensive ability - unique among Rangers defensemen - in the lineup, Poti replied: "I'm confident he feels that way. But it also feels like, right now, my confidence is shot.

"The first time I was benched (Oct. 8 at New Jersey), I came back positive. Then it happened again. And my confidence is at a low right now."

Wah wah, my confidence is shot. Hey Tom, stop whining, no one cares. You will not get an ounce of sympathy from anyone in the building (or the entire viewing audience), until you start playing with heart on a consistent basis.

The Rodent has some Petr Prucha videos for your viewing pleasure.

There is a new Calder's Corner up. This week, Calder catches up with some departed players and updates us on the current Wolf Pack team.

Speaking of catching up with former players, the Jason LaBarbara watch is still on. Last night Jason won his fifth game in five starts, leading the Kings to a 3-1 win over the Mighty Ducks. The former Wolf Pack goaltender made 29 saves, improving his save percentage to 1.40 with a .947 goals against average. In five starts, he has given up only seven goals.

The mini-vacation is almost over. Tomorrow night, the Islanders return to MSG. Back to work, boys.
