The Adventures of . . .
Monday - November 07, 2005

Super Mario and Kid Sid . . .

That's right folks, tonight in Madison Square Garden, the Next One, Sidney Crosby, makes his first appearance on Broadway. So far, he has shown glimpses of everything we were told about him. Although he is only 18 years old and playing on a bad team, he is tied for 11th in the league in scoring with 18 points, and he sits right up there with the likes of Vincent Lecavalier and Teemu Selanne.

Of course, with him comes Mario Lemieux, one of the greatest scorers in NHL history. What he does not bring with him is a very good Penguins team, although they have been improving recently. Pittsburgh only has three wins, but all of them have come in their last five games.

And what do the Rangers bring to the table? They bring a two game winning streak (and 4 of their last 5), coming off of a thrilling shootout victory on Saturday. They bring some exciting rookies with heart and energy. They bring one of the most dangerous players in the world in Jaromir Jagr. They bring a whole new winning attitude to the Garden. And they bring a couple of hot goaltenders into the contest (Weekes will probably get another start tonight).

Today's news focuses on, you guessed it, the Crosby show coming to town:

NY Daily News: Somebody wanted to know whether Renney was curious to see how Crosby . . . would react to his first visit to the Garden. "Sure, I'll be curious," said Renney, who watched Crosby come up through Hockey Canada. "We want to kick his (butt) basically."

NY Newsday: When it comes to Crosby . . . the Rangers' coach, who saw the phenom close up while scouting during the lockout, was full of accolades. "I know what this kid's like," Renney said. "He's a great player and another kid who's great for this game right now, just huge. I'm sure he'll perform well."

The Star Ledger: Colin Stephenson writes that the Rangers will need scoring from more players with Martin Rucinsky out and Michael Nylander not certain for tonight's game.

NY Post: Larry Brooks talks about Renney's practice of benching players that are not performing up to expectations, in contrast to recent Rangers' coaches.

The Rodent has a good, long rant for your reading pleasure.

It should be fun tonight. Remember that the game is on OLN tonight. The puck drops at 7:00 pm EST.
