"Just a regular game"
Tuesday - December 13, 2005
"I'm just going to be focused on playing my game regardless of who's out there or whether I'm on the ice at the same time as he is or not. I'm going to approach the game the same way I approach every game." - Dominic Moore on tonight's visit to the Garden by Todd Bertuzzi He is a Harvard graduate, of course those are the things he is going to be saying. This isn't Reggie Dunlop of the Charlestown Chiefs putting a bounty on Tim McCracken. But don't think that if Todd Bertuzzi puts his head down for even one second, Dom Moore won't try to take it off. Maybe I am wrong about what might happen tonight, but Dominic is a passionate player. He is close with his brothers, and the entire family has remained fairly quiet about "the incident". Maybe for just one shift tonight, the Moore family will make its final statement. Bertuzzi was looking for revenge when he sucker-punched Steve Moore and broke some vertebrae in his neck, as well as giving him a concussion. I find it hard to believe that Dominic won't be looking for a bit of retribution tonight. When I woke up this morning, I thought about how Cam Neely used to turn into the Incredible Hulk whenever Ulf Samuelsson was on the ice opposite him. Though he returned from the injury, it is widely agreed that Samuelsson ended Neely's career very prematurely. Cam would often break away from his role as a scorer to take runs at Ulf. Hockey players don't forget, and this is a close knit team as far as we can tell. If Strudwick, Orr, Ortmeyer, Nieminen, or Hollweg are on the ice with Bertuzzi, I am quite certain one of them will do a favor for their pal Dom. NY Post: "The way I see it, it's just a regular game, and I would [say so] if I felt otherwise," Dominic Moore, whose older brother Steve suffered debilitating injuries as the victim of Bertuzzi's infamous sneak attack in Vancouver during the March 8, 2004 Avalanche-Canucks game, said following yesterday's practice. The Journal News: Brotherly love is a universal notion, so one can only imagine the level of contempt Rangers rookie Dominic Moore might have for Todd Bertuzzi. Most would consider it a natural reaction. NY Daily News: They still don't agree at all about the tactics necessary to fix the Rangers' broken-down power play. But Jaromir Jagr and Tom Renney remain unabashed members of their two-man mutual admiration society. NY Newsday: Dominic Moore will line up at his new position, left wing, against Vancouver at the Garden tonight. It's possible that the player lining up against him will be the man who ruined his brother's hockey career. NY Times: When asked Saturday how he felt about going up against Bertuzzi, Moore said: "I'm not shying away from it. I'm just treating it like any other game." We'll see. Rangers versus the Canucks, tonight at MSG. The puck drops at 7:00 pm EST. HDH eMail this entry! |
