I, I will begin again.....
Sunday - January 01, 2006
All is quiet on New Year's Day I missed yesterdays game so it would be unfair for me to comment on what I did not see. You know, like how it would be unfair for a ref to call a penalty on a play he did not see.....so I won't do that. It's safe to say that the refs were a big part of yesterdays game as far as what I'm reading. Fact or Fiction did a little research on Ref Craig Spada. We'll get the news and then I have two announcements to make....so let's do it..... Hockey Rodent - If I'm Renney, it is No More Mr. Nice guy when we get back to Tarrytown. No, sir. While Dick Clark and a couple hundred thousand revelers are toasting the glowing ball in Times Square, your friendly neighborhood Blueshirts are doing wind sprints near the Tappan Zee Bridge from touchdown 'til the year 2006. Daily News - "It was tough - we almost finished a three-on-four there and then we get another one with two seconds left," said Lundqvist, whose acrobatics included stopping Sergei Gonchar on a second-period breakaway and robbing Crosby twice from in close. "I want to win every game. And I get frustrated every time we lose." NY Post - "There's a way we have to play from A-to-Z to be effective and we missed a couple of letters, to say the least," the head coach said following yesterday's 4-3 defeat. "You have to be honest with yourself when you're not good enough; let's not camouflage it." Newsday - "I'm not sure that we competed hard enough for the first 40 minutes, and the third period was just basically a penalty-kill period," Renney said. "There's not a lot to like about the game, quite honestly. But we'll go to school and correct ourselves." NY Times - On the game-winner Saturday, which came 3 minutes 31 seconds into overtime, Crosby scored from the bottom of the right circle, after the puck trickled to him. John LeClair appeared to interfere just enough with Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to prevent him from sliding over to that side of the net. Lundqvist made 33 saves. Journal News - "When they're calling everything, you have to be smarter," said right wing Jaromir Jagr, after the Rangers were outshot 37-17 and generated just six shots after the first period. "It seems like every time we lose, it's because we've screwed up and we make stupid plays." Blueshirt Bulletin - .....Specifically, referee Craig Spada -- if I was in charge, this would have been his last game as an NHL referee. These were fireable offenses. This was a referee having a very bad day and then compounding his many errors by putting himself above the game. OK, OK....enough. We lost. How about we discuss something else? On Jan 12th, 2006 the NY Rangers will honor former Rangers Captain Mark Messier at MSG. To help celebrate this occasion we here at Hockeybird would like to offer a free NYR hat to six lucky readers. One for each Stanley Cup won by Moose. The six winners will be selected randomly from the emails you send to moose@hockeybird.com but you can enter only once per e-mail addy. That's more free stuff from us to you and is brought to you by FashionFlash.net. Wait, it gets better....you can once again purchase a hat for only $5 here just because you read Hockeybird. Winners of the free stuff will be announced on the night of the 12th. Last but not least, I'd like to welcome a sponsor to Hockeybird, Bizrate.com. I usually turn down all the offers for advertising here but these guys provide an excellent service and I personally use the site. So, go ahead and click their ad. You'll be happy you did. Now I need more coffee to help get over the small amount of adult beverages I consumed last night. Aw screw it.....beer me. Happy New Years to all! And so we're told this is the golden age ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at January 01, 2006 12:10 PMeMail this entry! |
