Deep Freeze
Monday - February 13, 2006
I am not just referring to the 27 inches of snow NYC was hit with Sunday. I am talking about a trade freeze, a practice freeze, and a game freeze in the NHL. Everything is now on hold while the athletes travel to Italy for the Olympic Games. Everything is on hold while Ranger fans hold their breath and pray that no one gets hurt on the other side of the pond. It kind of stinks, doesn't it? The Blueshirts are on the best run in years, they go out with a six game winning streak, and a 10-1-1 record in their last twelve, and the league goes on vacation. When they come back, they play 16 games in 30 days. They start it off on March 2nd against the Flyers, then they play the Devils and Hurricanes. I hope all the jet-lag is gone by then. Anyway, the news is light. We will try and chime in every now and then with Olympic and Wolf Pack news, but don't be surprised if we take a day off here and there over the next couple of weeks. NY Daily News: "I don't want to take anything for granted," Renney said. "I want them to work hard. I want to continue to raise the bar. At the same time, it's important to give these guys good feedback and acknowledge what they've accomplished so far. But they don't hand out the Stanley Cup in February, March or April. We still have a way to go." NY Post: Larry Brooks thinks it is time that Gary Bettman ban gambling altogether from the NHL. Hartford Courant: Lee Falardeau has only two goals in 39 games and none since late November. He remains in the Wolf Pack lineup, and for good reason. NHL.com has a good article on Rangers' prospect Lauri Korpikoski. The Men's hockey starts on Wednesday. Henrik Lundqvist and Team Sweden gets things going against Kazakhstan, while the Americans play at 3pm EST.
