That's what I worried about
Wednesday - February 15, 2006

No, do not fear . . . so far a Ranger has not been injured in the Olympics. However, a very important player from a team on a very important run got a little hurt today.

The Ottawa and Czech Republic goaltender, Dominic Hasek, hurt his right leg and was taken out of the Czech's opening game against Germany. Now, it doesn't appear to be serious, at least right now, but this has to be a big fear for the NHL clubs. As I write this, the Czechs are leading Germany 2-1 after two periods. Tomas Kaberle has both goals for the CR. Martin Straka and Jaromir Jagr have an assist each.

Of the games completed so far today:

Sweden whooped Kazakhstan 7-2, and Henrik Lundqvist didn't even have to play. He will be saved for the tougher games later on.

Canada beat up on Italy 7-2, with Jarome Iginla leading the way with two goals. Dany Heatley, Shane Doan, Joe Thorton, Brad Richards, and Martin St. Louis added goals for team Canada. Martin Brodeur faced only 20 shots in the contest.

Finland shut out the Swiss team 5-0. Teemu Selanne had a pair of goals and an assist, as did Olli Jokinen. Ville Nieminen was held pointless, but he DID stay out of the penalty box.

The U.S. team faces Latvia at 3:00 pm EST.

You can find all of the results and schedules here.

Mark Herrmann of Newsday has a piece on Henrik Lundqvist.

Of course, the Great Gambling Caper has made the back pages of all of the papers. I don't want to seem like I am blowing it off or that it is a non-issue, but I don't feel the necessity to cover it any more than it has been. Thus far, no Rangers have been implicated in the matter. All the attention has been diverted from the culprits, such as Rick Tocchet, to Wayne Gretzky, whose wife may have placed bets. Just seems like a feeding frenzy to me.

By the way, where is Gary Bettman in all of this? Letting the greatest ambassador the game has ever seen take all the heat, that's where. Nice job, Gary.

We'll be back with updates on the scores (and heaven forbid, injuries.)
