Getting Some Rest
Sunday - April 02, 2006

The only thing better than a few days rest is watching your opponent lose at the same time. While I can't claim to root for the Devils, I smiled when I saw the score. A 4-1 loss for the Flyers. The Rangers still have a four point lead in the Atlantic division.

Today the Flyers visit Nassau and we get to root for the Islanders.

Journal News - "If you look at our lineup, the nature of it, you think, 'These guys are not going to be hard to play against,' " Rangers coach Tom Renney said. " 'They're not going to come in and pound us.' We want to make sure we do do that. That we go beyond what people might think we're capable of doing from a physical perspective."

As I mentioned in the most recent Birdcage, it's interesting to see Orr getting more ice. If Renny can play him it will give us the four lines we need while keeping the toughness we desire.

Speaking of toughness, the Pack won a fight filled game last night with both players and coaches getting penalty minutes.

Some dude from the NY Post writes about changing up the power play.

The Ranger beat writers are getting some rest too it seems, so we'll go to Philly for more Rangers talk.

Uncle Larry offers up his slap shots Sunday column and our very own Rodent counters with one of his own. My money is on the Rodent as I have seen the spreadsheet in all it's mathematical glory.....and Larry is in Tampa following the Yankees while drinking Anchor Steam.

I forgot to mention that both the Rodent and Hockeybird are part of an article in the latest BlueShirt Bulletin. Today's entry is by Jess who has filled in for Dubi the last few days. Dubi was on holiday in Baghdad...or Cleveland....or something. Jess reviews NYR's prospects. If you get the print version of the BSB you get to see a photo of me in a full Rangers uni taken on the ice at the Nassau Coliseum. If you don't get the print version...why not?

Correction: In yesterday's Birdcage I incorrectly referred to the 'Nucks kid defenseman. Of course, I meant the Flames Dion Phaneuf who in any other season would win rookie of the year. I fixed it thanks to Roddie of Cupchasers.com who was nice enough to point out my error.

You may wish to take this time to see if you can remember the names of the others in your family. Spend a few minutes doing something with them because as of Tuesday we're right back to work and this year "Spring" doesn't mean hockey's over. It may be a while before we'll have time for the wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/plush toy. Isn't that right 'Bug? ;-)

Change your clocks. While you're at it, change your socks.

Beer me.
