Break out the brooms
Saturday - May 13, 2006

The Senators avoided it, the Avalanche couldn't, and the Devils will try to prevent it. This afternoon, the Carolina Hurricanes try to sweep the series and move on to the Conference Finals. It's funny how the Devils, and Martin Brodeur in particular, have moved from arrogant confidence to this:

"Getting swept would take away from what we've tried to build all these years, never giving in," Brodeur said. "In this organization, there's a lot of pride in making it tough for the opposition."

That game starts at 3:00 pm EST.

The Edmonton Oilers scored five unanswered goals to rally past the Sharks 6-3 to even their series at 2 games each. The Oilers had six different scorers, including Michael Peca. Joe Thorton had a goal and an assists in the loss.

The parade to the operating table continues for the Flyers. Goalie Robert Esche and Dman Mike Rathje will both undergo hip surgeries. Man, they were hurt worse than the Rangers were.

The Rodent answers a question raised by our good friend Andy from the LES (lead guitarist for Judas Crease, the official band of Hockeybird.com). Andy is also the sound guy / guitar tech / road manager / duct tape finder for Unforgettable Fire, a U2 tribute band. These guys are awesome. What's even more awesome is that they are performing at a benefit for fallen NYPD police officers this Wednesday, May 17th, in Brooklyn. For more information on that show, and all of the band's other shows, check out UF2.com.

The Hartford Wolf Pack will try to avoid elimination tomorrow when they face the Portland Pirates in Game 6 of their series. The Pack will be without defenseman Martin Grenier, who was suspended two games for an altercation at the end of Game 5. With Dave Liffiton injured and Grenier suspended, coach Jim Schoenfeld has to move his players around. Craig Weller will move back to defense, and the forward lines will be shuffled.

Go Pack! Oh, and go Canes too!
