Holy Fishsticks Batman!
Tuesday - July 18, 2006

"Just 40 days after being naming Neil Smith as general manager, the New Islanders decided it was time for a fresh new face. "

Neil Smith out is as Isles GM.

Garth Snow is in.

More bizarre? OK, Pat LaFontaine quits later in the day.

Um.......WTF?

This is either a smart move correcting a big mistake or it's a sure sign that huge mistakes are the norm on the Island. One thing's for sure.....it's bizarre.

Newsday - "I spoke with Garth at length throughout the spring about the general manager's position and he really impressed me with his passion and his knowledge," said Islanders owner Charles Wang in the release. "When the job opened up, the choice was an easy one. Garth knows the league as well as anyone, has an eye for talent and understands how our staff works as a team. Most importantly, Garth is a man of integrity, someone I trust will work hard, be creative and represent the Islanders with dignity."

Slam - Hired less than six weeks ago as part of a front office by committee, Smith failed to live up to owner Charles Wang's terms and was let go Tuesday before he had a chance to put his new team on the ice. Smith was abruptly fired and shockingly replaced by New York goalie Garth Snow, who retired to take over the position.
