Oh Sleep, where art thou?
Thursday - September 21, 2006

So, since I can't sleep at night due to my new daughter, you get dinner time updates. This is only preseason coverage anyway. We'll be up to speed come 10/5.

Nonetheless, the Rangers beat up on Devils-lite yesterday in the Garden. Everyone pretty much did what they were supposed to: Prucha scored, Henrik stopped, Orr fought, etc., etc.

Unfortunately, the injury bug that plagued the team late last season is back. We know that Jagr is recovering, but just how far is he away from participating? Well Colin Stepheson of the Journal News talked to Tom Renney about the possibility that Jagr could miss the opener: There's a timeline -- there's a definitive timeline (with this surgery)," Renney said. "Unless they open it up and look and see that everything's fine, or unless they do some spectacular MRI that suggests everything's fine, it's healed, it's strong. So we have to pay attention to the timeline -- just to play it safe. It's such a huge investment to all of us. We need him bang-on healthy.

We also found out that Michal Rozsival underwent surgery to repair an injured knee, though his recovery time is expected to be about two weeks, which means he could make the opener.

Kevin Weekes, meanwhile, is out indefinitely with a strained hip flexor. Consequently, Weekes will not travel to Puerto Rico this weekend for the game against the Panthers. Al Montoya, who looked pretty good the other night, will take his place and will play the entire 60 minutes as Lundqvist did last night. I think it's a good bet that Montoya will be on the bench behind Henrik to start the season if Weekes isn't available.

Sam Weinman of the Journal News writes about the whirlwind week for Matt Cullen.

Joe Mac at NY SportsDay says that Greg Moore opened some eyes with his 2 assist game last night.

The guys at Blueshirt Bulletin have some nice stuff, including comments from Cullen, Shanahan, and Coach Renney.

TSN has the 2006-07 team preview.

Next up is the trip to PR to face the Panthers this Saturday. The game will be aired on MSG at 7:30 EST.

I'll get some stuff up from around the NHL tomorrow morning, including the latest updates on Evgeni Malkin's injury.
