Farewell Chief
Tuesday - September 26, 2006

There are no links to confirm this, but it seems that longtime Ranger fan "The Chief" has passed away. He would get us to stand and cheer at MSG wearing that Indian Headress. I thought of him on that night....June 14th, 1994. Perhaps one of the local beat writers will do an article on him.

Darius Kasparaitis traded in his hockey stick for a hammer during his tour of Casa Bacardi while he visited right before the exhibition game. At Casa Bacardi, Darius got a one-on-one lesson on the art of coopering the barrels that age BACARDI rum.

Thanks to the folks at Bacardi (a delicious rum) and the Baddish group for the pic. The little guy behind Kaspar is Petr Prucha. Can you name the other players?

The Rangers played a good two periods before collapsing in the third last night vs. the Isles. I couldn't see the game so I can't comment on specifics.

NY Post - "The Islanders scored four third-period goals against Stephen Valiquette, who went the distance in nets. Jarkko Immonen (who also had an assist) and Ivan Baranka scored for the Blueshirts, 3-1-0 heading into tomorrow night's Garden match against the Bruins."

Journal News -In his first preseason game last week, he had two assists in the Rangers' 3-0 win over the Devils, and he added a few more scoring opportunities last night. Yet given the Rangers' depth at forward, where a handful of prospects already rank ahead of him, Moore is likely to begin his first full year out of college in the minor leagues.

Daily News - The only question now is whether Jagr plays in one preseason game or two before taking the Garden ice for the season opener Oct. 5 - presumably wearing the "C" as the Rangers' new captain.

Newsday - Darius Kasparaitis, recovering from offseason hernia and shoulder operations, had been asked by Renney to "be physically assertive, have good hard shifts, show leadership, do the little things ... I have faith in Darius." Kasparaitis delivered two booming hits.

The Hockey Rodent calls out Lou.

Joe Mac at NY Sports Day - It’s the Rangers’ hope Jagr will take part in one of the final two preseason games this weekend before the team finished up camp in Lake George early next week.

Star-Ledger - Darius Kasparaitis acknowledged he hasn't been his normal loud, obnoxious self in the Rangers' locker room the past week or so.

BlueShirt Bulletin - "Jarkko had a good game," said coach Tom Renney of the player who notched a goal and an assist, and led the team with a 9-8 record on draws (4-0 vs. Alexei Yashin). "He's got good timing, very good sense, he's good in the faceoff circle. Whether he jumped out is open to debate, but certainly he made an impression."

I'm off to work....enjoy the day!
