300 Million
Tuesday - October 17, 2006

Henke tosses a puck into the crowd

Somewhere today the 300 millionth American will be born. He/she will be a Ranger fan...I'm calling it.

The Rodent has the boys taking baby steps...get it? 300 millionth baby born...baby steps? Aw nevermind.

The Boys over at the BlueShirt Bulletin have some pics and they'll have a recap as always.

The Journal News - "We really needed this win," said Lundqvist, the second-year goalie who had 34 saves. "It's been a long week. When you go to practice and you've just lost the last game, we really wanted to get back to winning. It was a great effort."

Daily News - On Kaspar, "Of all the guys I've met, I've been so impressed with how he handled himself the last two weeks," winger Brendan Shanahan said. "He's such a positive guy. He worked hard. He just was a leader in practice in spite of the fact that I'm sure he felt a little left out."

NY Post - Last night, Lundqvist was precise. Last night, Lundqvist was explosive in getting across the crease. Last night, the King played with an aura and the Rangers played a royal game, themselves. It was back to the future.

Post again - "Team defense was the No. 1 priority for us," Darius Kasparaitis said after his season debut. "We focused more on playing defense."

there are three from Newsday....here, here and here.

NY Times - “It’s one of those nights when you really appreciate your opponent because they’ll either bring out the best in you or the worst in you,” Renney said. “And we seemed to be able to rise to the occasion. Let’s face it, they helped us find our game, at least to a certain point.”

In NHL news...the Isles lost. :-) Here's the scoreboard.

From Slam come this report on a book that looks like a good read on Carl Brewer, a former Leaf who helped the NHL players get their due.

Kaspar returns and the hitting by the Rangers goes way up. Sure, Henke was great and Shanny has 7 goals but Kaspar is the guts of this team. Did anyone see the Tyutin hip checK?
