Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you -

- Brad Isbister. Gee, with all the talk about Petr Nedved, and now the news that Brad Isbister will wear Ranger Blue, how can anyone NOT be excited? And thank goodness they sent Ryan Callahan back down to Hartford to make room for Brad, because that Colton Orr is tearing things up in the NHL, and to lose him would have been tragic. But hey, the former Coyote, Islander, Oiler, and Hurricane (even though he wasn't good enough to crack their lineup) is here now. Five teams in eight pro seasons? He's a hot commodity. As for the Wolf Pack players, they now know that if they can get just one goal and go -1 for every eight games they play, they too will get their shot. Ok, that's enough sarcasm for today. Bad news of the day: Michael Nylander is not making the trip to Florida, as he still had flu symptoms and an ear infection. NY DailyNews: Lundqvist in, Nylander out, Cullen in, Malik out, Isbister in, Callahan out. NY Post: Rangers fans who remember Isbister from his much-maligned Islander days realize he won't be a savior. But that's not what the Blueshirts are hoping for. They just want a stop-gap who can add some life to a limping team. Add some life? Whatever. NY Newsday: "[The penalties] may be a product of a little longer shift than what's required," Rangers coach Tom Renney said. "With that, you try to do too much. We didn't play bad at all. We really hurt ourselves by the penalties." Did he just say they didn't play bad at all? Whatever. Sam Weinman in the Asbury Park Press: "I had Brad in the World Championships and he played really, really well. Since then his game's been up and down due to injuries or whatever, so we're hoping that there's something there that he can add to the lineup. Shoney (Hartford coach and GM Jim Schoenfeld) has said he's played extremely well." Extremely well? Whatever. Dubi at Blueshirt Bulletin sums up things very nicely: We've heard this song before, even to some extent with other veterans this season, who have gotten long looks while failing to recapture their past successes while younger players plummet down the depth chart, some of them eventually landing in Hartford. We know where this road leads. We don't want to go down that road again. Brad Isbister may not amount to a hill of beans as an important issue, but he is already a symbol of a culture that was supposed to have changed last year, a culture that once again favors underachieving veterans and no-upside retreads over hungry young prospects. The Rodent shares his opinions on the loss to the Isles, and the recent slide. Sorry guys, I'm not in that good of a mood today. Humbug. Tonight, the Rangers visit the Florida Panthers. The Panthers are looking for their third straight win, having scored 13 goals in their last two games. The puck drops at 7:30 pm EST.
