Hey everyone, it's me....Bird. Yes, I'm still alive.
I have been on a sort of break from the site since before Christmas as I'm dealing with issues. No worries, I'm not dying or anything. (well, we are all one step closer each day.....but I digress)
Sidney Crosby is one hell of a hockey player. There, I said it. After watching the New York fans try hard to trash the kid (hell, even I called him Cindy once) it's occurred to me that the jealousy thing is not happening. So, I watched him play in a few games and found him to be quite the player indeed. I'll not be bashing him on this site although the other writers can do as they wish.
Like most of you I am puzzled by the play of the NY Rangers. One can point to a game like the one vs. Washington and see reasons to think this "TEAM" is in fact a team that sticks up for one another and plays for each other. The Shanny fight was a thing of hockey beauty. But games like that are in fact a rarity. The truth is closer to the record. This team has not yet gelled at all.
Yes, there is still time for the team I think is there to show itself on a nightly basis. In addition, we could see a move or two that improves the team's chances. But that brings me to another point. One which has been brought up many times. Where's the rebuild? Last season you could point to several players as a clear indication that the Rangers would be growing their own. This season.....not so much.
The hope I had at the beginning of this year has faded. Honestly, even though I have taken a break from writing I still watch every game. I'm at a loss to explain some of the line up changes, line combos and of course....results. I can't explain why Henke is not as consistent as I'd like to see.
What seems so simple is perhaps not.
- Roll all four lines all game long.
- Play as if you are losing 0-4 all game long.
- If an opposing player hits one of our guys, someone hits one of theirs.
This is a team game and so far the Rangers are not much of a team. That in a nutshell is what needs to be fixed short term. That's on the players, coaches and GM......all of them.
There is still time left to right the ship....c'mon Rangers, show us what you got. For the rest of you.....read the latest Fact or Fiction.
I'll be tuning in for some HD all-star stuff tonight. Man, I love HDTV.
