You can say whatever you want about any of the different things that happened on the ice tonight in Buffalo......the two minute penalty that Staal took early in the first was the difference in the game tonight and why I like these guys in a playoff series. And don't tell me this game didn't have a playoff feel to it.
If you'll pardon the language, what Marc Staal did was a classic, "fuck that shit" hit after a Sabre had floored Mara. Without hesitation he just clocked the guy. A rookie of his type doesn't add this to his game this early....but there it was. Then his teammates killed off the penalty. This is exactly what I was talking about in the last pod cast.
The Kid gets my first star despite the bad giveaway that led to a goal against. The other kids were pretty good tonight too. Dawes scored on a bad angle shot that beat Miller clean. Sweet. Dubi's goal was one of those in the right place at the right time plays as was Avery's.
And those of you who are asking if Henke was worth the contract that Sather gave him.....um, did you see that save on the breakaway late in the third? You're damn right he's worth it.
Wow. What a game.
The only time I was feeling the game slip was when the Rangers stopped hitting for a time. When they picked it up again....BINGO!(blatent Rodent reference) Now granted, I'm a bit full of adrenaline (and beer) and quite happy about the 4-3 win.....and I'm not suggesting that there were no mistakes made tonight. Have you ever played? Mistakes are made on every shift....just not all turn into goals against and not all goals against cost you a game. The Jagr giveaway that led to a goal against was offset in my mind by his first period goal. We need him to get hot.
I'm still not sure I wanna play these guys in the playoffs though....the Sabres are a good team. Give 'em credit for a hell of a game.
If I can get games like this for the rest of the run.....I'll be satisfied. Hot damn what a game.....I love this sport!
